Soft Landscaping in Edenbridge

Garden clearance, turfing, soil preparation and planting to finish a garden.

Soft landscaping is the living side of a garden: lawns, borders, shrubs and trees. It is often the final stage of a bigger project, or the main job when an overgrown garden needs to be cleared and brought back into use.

One Stop Build & Landscaping clears, prepares and finishes gardens around Edenbridge, usually alongside patios, sleepers or fencing so the whole space comes together.

What soft landscaping covers

  • Clearing overgrown gardens and removing green waste
  • Rotavating and improving soil, including topsoil where needed
  • Laying new turf on prepared, levelled ground
  • Creating planting beds and borders
  • Bark, gravel or mulch finishes to reduce weeds

Why preparation matters

Turf laid on compacted, stony or uneven ground struggles to root and shows every dip. Removing debris, loosening the soil, levelling and firming before laying gives a lawn the best start. Heavy clay, common across the Weald, may benefit from improved topsoil.

Aftercare

New turf needs regular watering until it roots, especially in warm or dry weather, and should not be walked on heavily for the first few weeks. Rob will give guidance suited to the season the work is completed.

Cost and timing

Price depends on the area, how overgrown the garden is, waste volume, soil condition and access. Turfing is best done in the cooler, wetter months, but can be carried out at other times with enough watering.

Soft Landscaping questions

What is soft landscaping?

The living elements of a garden: lawns, plants, shrubs, trees and the soil preparation that supports them.

Can you clear a very overgrown garden?

Yes. Brambles, weeds, old shrubs and rubbish can be cleared and taken away, leaving the ground ready for new work.

Is turf better than seed?

Turf gives an instant lawn and can be used sooner. Seed costs less but takes longer to establish and is more dependent on weather.

When is the best time to lay turf?

Autumn and spring are ideal because the ground is moist and temperatures are mild. Summer turfing is possible but needs regular watering.

How often should new turf be watered?

Keep it moist until it has rooted, which may mean daily watering in dry weather. Lift a corner to check roots are growing into the soil.

Do you supply plants?

Plants can be sourced to suit your preferences and soil, or you can supply your own and have the beds prepared and planted.

Can you deal with Japanese knotweed?

Japanese knotweed needs specialist treatment. If it is suspected, Rob will advise you to contact a specialist before any work disturbs it.

Can you remove tree stumps?

Small stumps can often be dug out. Larger stumps may need grinding by a specialist. Tree work near buildings or protected trees requires appropriate checks.

Will the garden waste be removed?

Yes, green waste and debris can be removed and disposed of responsibly as part of the job.
