Wall & Floor Tiling in Edenbridge

Wall and floor tiling for bathrooms, kitchens, cloakrooms and hallways, from metro tiles to large-format porcelain.

Tiles are expected to last for many years, so mistakes stay visible for a long time: uneven edges, cracked tiles, crooked lines and grout that fails in wet areas.

One Stop Build & Landscaping tiles walls and floors in kitchens, bathrooms, cloakrooms, utility rooms and hallways around Edenbridge, as standalone jobs or as part of wider refits.

Wall tiling

Kitchen splashbacks, bathroom walls and showers each have different needs. Wet areas need waterproofing behind tiles, and large tiles need very flat walls to avoid lippage. Metro and brick-style tiles suit traditional and modern rooms, while large-format porcelain gives a seamless look with fewer grout lines.

Floor tiling

Tile typeStrengthsConsiderations
CeramicAffordable, wide choice, easy to cutBest for walls and light-traffic floors
PorcelainDense, hard-wearing, low water absorptionHarder to cut; large formats need flat substrates
Natural stoneUnique characterUsually needs sealing and gentler cleaning

Floor tiles must be laid on a sound, stable base. Timber floors may need overboarding to limit movement, and concrete floors may need levelling or moisture checks. Slip resistance matters in bathrooms and entrances.

How tiling is carried out

  • Remove old tiles and assess the surface underneath
  • Prepare, board or level walls and floors
  • Apply waterproofing to wet areas
  • Set out the layout so cuts are balanced and features align
  • Fix tiles with suitable adhesive, then grout and seal joints
  • Silicone movement joints at corners and junctions

Cost and timing

Area, tile size and type, pattern complexity, preparation, waterproofing and removal of old tiles influence cost. Adhesive and grout need curing time before full use. For a quotation, send photos, measurements, your postcode and the tiles you have in mind.

Tiling questions

Can you tile over existing tiles?

Sometimes, if the old tiles are firmly bonded and flat and the added height is acceptable. Often removing them gives a more reliable result. Rob will assess before recommending either.

What tiles are best for a bathroom floor?

Porcelain is popular for durability and low water absorption. Choose a slip-resistant finish, particularly near showers.

Do I need waterproofing behind shower tiles?

Yes. Tiles and grout are not fully waterproof, so a tanking system behind tiles in showers and wet areas protects the structure.

Can large-format tiles go on any wall?

Large tiles need flat, strong surfaces. Walls may need preparation or boarding first, and heavy tiles have weight limits on some substrates.

Which layout pattern should I choose?

Straight lay, brick bond, herringbone and offset patterns all create different effects. Large rectangular tiles are often laid with a third offset to reduce unevenness. Rob can advise on what suits your tiles and room.

What grout colour should I pick?

Matching grout gives a seamless look; contrasting grout highlights the pattern, such as dark grout with white metro tiles. Lighter grout shows dirt more easily on floors.

Do you supply the tiles?

You can choose tiles from your preferred supplier, or discuss sourcing with Rob. Order around 10 percent extra for cuts and future repairs.

How long before I can use the shower or walk on the floor?

Adhesive and grout need curing time depending on the products and conditions. Rob will tell you when the area can be used.

How do I keep tiles and grout clean?

Use a pH-neutral cleaner, ventilate wet rooms to reduce mould, and reseal natural stone as advised. Avoid harsh acids on grout.

What information do you need for a quote?

Photos, wall and floor measurements, your postcode, the tile size and type, and whether old tiles need removing.
