Bathroom Fitting in Edenbridge

Bathroom and shower room refits planned around layout, waterproofing and keeping disruption short.

A bathroom refit packs plumbing, electrics, waterproofing, tiling and carpentry into a small room that the household cannot easily do without. Careful planning and a clear sequence make the difference between a smooth refit and weeks of disruption.

One Stop Build & Landscaping fits bathrooms and shower rooms across the Edenbridge area, coordinating the supporting trades so you deal with one person from strip-out to the final silicone.

Choosing a layout

OptionGood forThings to consider
Bath with shower overFamilies and smaller roomsScreen or curtain, tiling height
Walk-in showerEasy access and a modern lookTray or level floor, screen size, splash zone
Wet room styleAccessibility and small roomsFull waterproofing, floor falls to the drain

Keeping the toilet, basin and bath in their current positions usually costs least, because waste and supply pipes stay put. Swapping a bath for a walk-in shower, adding a second basin or moving the toilet is often possible but depends on routes for waste pipes, which need a fall to drain. Rob will tell you what each option involves.

What a refit involves

  • Strip-out of sanitaryware, tiles and old boards
  • First-fix plumbing and electrics by qualified colleagues
  • Preparing walls and floors, and waterproofing wet areas
  • Fitting bath or shower tray, toilet, basin and furniture
  • Wall and floor tiling, then second-fix and silicone
  • Extractor fan and lighting suitable for bathroom zones

Waterproofing, ventilation and safety

Showers and wet areas should be properly tanked beneath the tiles, not just grouted. Building Regulations require an extractor fan in bathrooms, and electrical work in bathrooms is notifiable and must respect the zones around baths and showers. These details are invisible once finished but determine whether the room lasts.

Cost, timing and disruption

Room size, layout changes, product choices, the amount of tiling, the condition of floors and walls, and whether a wet-room floor is needed all affect cost. If it is your only bathroom, Rob will plan the work to keep a toilet working for as much of the time as possible and tell you when water will be off.

Bathroom Fitting questions

Can I supply my own bathroom suite?

Yes. You can choose products from your preferred supplier, and Rob will check they suit the room and plumbing before fitting. Arrange delivery before work starts so missing parts do not cause delays.

Can you replace my bath with a walk-in shower?

Usually. The shower tray or floor drain needs a route for waste with enough fall, and walls need waterproofing. A low-profile tray suits most rooms; a level-access floor is more involved.

Will I have a working toilet during the refit?

If it is your only bathroom, the work is sequenced to keep the toilet connected for as long as possible, typically refitting it early. Some interruption is unavoidable, and Rob will tell you when.

Do I need an extractor fan?

Building Regulations require mechanical ventilation in bathrooms, typically an extractor fan. It prevents condensation and mould. Fans can be linked to the light or a humidity sensor.

Is tanking necessary in a shower?

Yes, it is strongly recommended. Grout and tiles are not fully waterproof. A tanking system behind tiles in shower areas prevents water reaching walls and floors, avoiding hidden damage.

Can you move the toilet to a different wall?

Possibly. Toilets need a large waste pipe with a fall to the soil stack. Moving it a short distance is often fine; moving it far can need a macerator or floor alterations. Rob will check feasibility.

Can you tile the whole bathroom?

Yes. Full-height, half-height or feature tiling are all options. Large-format tiles need very flat walls, so preparation is part of the quotation.

Can electrics go near the bath or shower?

Only fittings rated for each zone around the bath or shower can be installed there, and bathroom electrical work is notifiable. A qualified electrician handles this within the project.

What affects the cost of a bathroom refit?

Room size, layout changes, the products chosen, tiling area, waterproofing, floor and wall condition, and electrical work. Unexpected issues like rotten floorboards may only be found after strip-out, and Rob will discuss these before proceeding.

What should I send for a quotation?

Photos of the room, dimensions, your postcode, a list or links to the products you like, and whether you want to change the layout.
